Jeremiah Smith had dreamed of serving a Spanish speaking mission in a foreign country full of adventure his entire life. He never would have guessed that an U.S. Spanish speaking mission would fulfill his dream. The New York, New York Spanish speaking mission was as varied and foreign as anywhere in the world.
September 11th 2001 started out as any other day but quickly became something out of a nightmare as they watched events unfold before their eyes.
Listen in as Jeremiah shares his personal experiences of this historic day and how it affected the local people and his mission.
Ty Whelan had never been outside of Utah before being called to serve a mission to the Australia mission in 1966. Having been inactive most of his youth he had a lot of catching up to do.
After serving an honorable mission Ty learned that he could get his education paid for by enlisting in the military. So he did just that... but as many often find out, the military is a lot harsher than they expect. Sitting out on a hot dusty hill in Vietnam at one particular point, Ty receives a surprise postcard that will give him deep pause and reverence for his mission for the rest of his life...
Enjoy this conversation with Ty Whelan!
Ben Benards mission is unlike any other I've heard in my interviews. Forced to think outside the box to connect with the native people, the Fiji missionaries used their talents to build relationships of trust. From teaching karate lessons to forming a Christian rock band...these stories are not your average missionary stories. Enjoy!
Be sure to check out Ben's book, where he shares these stories and more in greater detail, "Faith and A Life Jacket, 7 Truths For Your Eternal Mission" on Ben's post on www.mormonmissionarystories.com and www.benbenards.com
